Most economists, political leaders and business managers today believe that the we are in for a Big, Long and Lot of restructuring of the world economy. In a scenario such as these businesses would be faced with both threats and oppurtunities. In response, business would need to build in adequate flexibility and adaptability in their business systems to navigate through such turbulent times.
Regardless of whether the business is currently experiencing turbulence or not, adaptability is critical to business survival.
Much of this flexibility or lack of it comes from the Information System of an enterprise. Information systems determine how people within an enterprise collaborate or are prevented from collaborating. It determines how the enterprise engages and collaborates with its customers and partners. It determine the structure and size of the enterprise. And therefore its costs and competitive advantage.
Adaptability and Openness should be the critical elements in designing the Information System of any enterprise for today’s turbulent environment.
